'Born Yawning' (2015) is out. Check it HERE.

Troubadour and raconteur Ben Wright Smith began writing songs as a teenager. Described now as 'one of the country's most exciting songwriters' (ToneDeaf), his journeyman-style storytelling has it's roots in early folk, alt-country, Beat-poetry and South American lyricism.

Ben's worldwide travels as a young twenty-something inspired a catalogue of hundreds of songs. With a guitar in tow, Ben travelled through Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, Nicaragua, Cuba and Mexico - with brief forays into India and, of course, his own cultural background in England - learning the local language, and using music as a 'way to remember the poems' he had been writing.

Despite initial bouts of stage-fright, upon his arrival back into his hometown of Melbourne, Australia, Ben immersed himself in the fertile live music scene, collaborating with other local musicians and building his own touring band. After re-convening with his old high-school friend, and local producer, Oscar Dawson, Ben started committing his compositions to tape.

In July 2014, Ben released the 'In Parallel' EP to a swathe of great reviews. He received airplay on community radio both in Australia and the US, and toured with the likes of D.D. Dumbo, HOLY HOLY, and Bertie Blackman.

In mid-2014, Ben found himself the recipient of the Australia Council's Nashville songwriting partnership grant, and before too long found himself in Tennessee, playing shows and working with highly regarded expat producer Mark Moffatt (The Saints, The Divinyls, Neil & Tim Finn).

As such, it's not just Australia getting excited by Ben Wright Smith. Having been invited to play the Americana Festival in Nashville twice, Ben has also caught the eye of Nylon Magazine and American Songwriter as one to watch.

Early 2015 found Ben Wright Smith back in the studio with Dawson, and with the release of single ‘No One’ (featuring frequent collaborator Ali Barter on guest vocal duties), Ben found himself touring nationally and receiving full rotation on national broadcaster triple j.

Now, we find Ben releasing another single, produced again by Dawson, and featuring Ali Barter again on guest vocal duties. The song, 'Born Yawning', also features the full roster of Ben's touring band, including bassist Tyler Millott, guitarist Nick Lam, drummer Josh Barber, and on the 12-string guitar, Jesse Guy Williams.

Ben is due back in the studio in the first half of 2016 to record his debut album.
